The PMO - whether a Programme Management Office or its Portfolio and Project variants - has evolved far beyond its original administrative or "Project Police" role. The modern PMO is a hub of information, a provider of standards and a source of in-house assurance and consultancy. As such, a well-run PMO with a proven strategic purpose is a vital support to companies and organisations looking to get the most out of their investment in portfolios of programmes and projects. 

Unfortunately, like any Support Organisation, the PMO can end up a disappointment.
